Local Beaches

You’ll be hard pushed to find better beaches than along this stunning stretch of coastline. Award-winning, safe and spectacular, there’s a beach to suit everyone. We’ve picked out a few of our favourites that are within easy reach of the apartment.

Wonwell Beach

You can’t have a seaside holiday without a good beach. South Devon’s got great beaches that are perfect for proper bucket and spade holidays, and many of them are award winners for cleanliness and safety. Wonwell beach is one of the best in the area and ticks all the right the boxes for an idyllic English seaside holiday. It is only a mile from the cottage and is a beautiful walk through lovely countryside.

Salcombe

The beautiful coastal town of Salcombe sits on the banks of the Kingsbridge Estuary making it one of the prettiest towns in South Devon. Salcombe is known for its outstanding coastal views and rolling surrounding countryside, as well as a centre for sailing. Salcombe is a great base for messing about on the water or at the water’s edge. Alternatively spend an afternoon browsing the quirky clothes shops and artisan food treats. Look out for Salcombe dairy ice cream! You will fall in love with this beautiful town.

South Milton Sands

If you want sand, stunning scenery and the chance to see rare wildlife on your holiday then Milton Sands has got the lot. Behind the beach you can discover wetlands that have been designated as an area of Special Scientific Interest. If you’re looking for a chance to observe wildlife in its natural environment, Milton Sands is the place to come for great views of migrating birds, rare butterflies and much more.

Bigbury-on-Sea

Located close by it is ideal for family holidays. Dusted with sand and lapped by shallow waters, the beach offers safe fun for groups particularly if you've children in tow. In addition, Bigbury on Sea beach is dotted with rock pools, so there’s plenty of entertainment for budding marine biologists who like to explore.

From here, walk across the tidal sandy causeway to the Burgh island. Grab a drink at the famous 700-year old ale house, The Pilchard Inn and when the tide comes in, catch the sea tractor back to dry land!
